Top 10 Smartphones of 2017

It’s that time of year again, the smartphone market starts to see the latest models and smartphone versions hit the shelves, or at the very least, we will see them advertised in preparation for a new and upcoming launch. With new versions being released all the time coupled with the amount of different manufacturers, deciding on which phone to buy is not always easy.

The question often is; do I even need to buy the latest smartphone version? Not necessarily, but if you want to be able to use your smartphone model’s latest features, an upgrade is essential. We wanted to help you decide on which model and version to buy, which is why we put this guide together for you. Check out which smartphones Australians loved this year in 2017, along with their features below.

  1. iPhone 8 Plus

The iPhone 8 was released earlier this year and proved to be the smartphone of all smartphones. Why? It mainly won over Australians (and the world) due to its performance and unprecedented battery life. It also has a dual camera system that kind of outdid the Galaxy Note’s camera because of its low-light camera system. However, in the end, the iPhone 8 plus certainly is a larger phone with even better features compared to other models.

Features and Specs:

  • 5 inch screen
  • 2 storage options – 64GB or 256GB
  • Weighs 202 grams
  • Apple A11 Processor

  • 7MP front camera
  • Battery – 2,691mAh
  • 1980 X 1080 for screen resolution
  1. Samsung Galaxy S8

The Galaxy S8 was the “it” smartphone right up until iPhone released its eighth generation. In terms of battery life and performance, Samsung’s Galaxy 8 is still up there, but Apple 8 Plus still outdoes Samsung. Samsung has come out with incredible screens, excellent battery life, and powerful performance. Aussies loved this phone, up until Apple’s recent releases. Don’t get us wrong, It’s still a great smartphone, but still lacks where Apple’s iPhone 8 makes up for that lack.

  1. Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium

Many of this year’s smartphones have impressed the market, and Sony is not an exception to this either. It sits in third position and for good reason. It has a few great features not offered on the bigger smartphone name brands, such as their 960 fps slow motion camera, amazing speed, incredible battery life, and its ability to resist water damage. In comparison to Apple and Samsung’s latest releases, it is a bit on the bulky side, but excellent performance can be found in this phone.

  • 5 inch screen
  • One storage option: 64GB
  • 195 grams
  • SnapDragon 835
  • 19MP rear cam
  • 13MP front cam
  • 3,230mAh battery
  • 3840 x 2160 screen resolution
  1. Galaxy Note 8

It’s not surprise to see Samsung on this list again, however, what is surprising is that it’s the Galaxy version. As many faithful Galaxy users know, the Note 7 was a complete disaster but the Galaxy Note 8 has made up for where the Galaxy Note 7 lacked. Apple’s iPhone 8 may not be the iPhone 8 Plus, but it’s pretty close. It has a lot of the same features, performance power, and functionality, but still doesn’t quite add up. What made this phone make it on our list was the fact that the the engineers managed to create a phone with less of battery capacity while somehow maintaining a powerful performance. The plus version of the Samsung S8 is almost identical to the smaller version. The main differences are the screen size and the battery life. The extra longevity in the battery life is pretty amazing but that’s about all the plus variant really offers with a price tag few are willing to pay, which is why it’s near the bottom of our list. The screen size is also much larger making the S8 an overall better choice in terms of size, price, batter life, and performance, unless of course you prefer larger phones.
